Personal Collections

Personal Collections help personalize the MERLOT collection for members.  It is a compilation of MERLOT modules that MERLOT Members can access easily to use for specific purposes, classes or topics.  The owner of the Personal Collection can annotate each collection to more easily explain the purpose of it.

Faculty Uses of Personal Collections

Suppose a Professor teaches a College Algebra class.  The Professor can place individual MERLOT modules in a College Algebra Collection.  Whenever that professor wants to access the modules saved for the class, he/she only has to access the Personal Collection for those modules.  For example:

Alternatively, a Professor may want to have a set of MERLOT modules that he/she uses in all classes when teaching a specific subject.  For instance, a professor may cover the topic of Genetics in a variety of different classes.  A Personal Collection for Genetics could be developed.  For example:

Another professor may teach Statistics and wants to create a collection to use when teaching about Regression Analysis.  For example:

Student Uses of Personal Collections

Students can also use Personal Collections to gather MERLOT resources to use when studying. The following are actual examples of Personal Collections of Student Members of MERLOT:

Other Uses of Personal Collections

Faculty, students, and others may also use the Personal Collections of others rather than developing their own Personal Collections.  St. Petersburg College created six different Math collections:

Each of these Personal Collections has four to fourteen different MERLOT materials. Math instructors could utilize these collections developed by St. Petersburg College for their own purposes.
